On June 29th, Illinois Unidos proudly participated in the ASI Rising to Create Healthier Communities conference. Our team was present in the exhibitor’s hall, sharing vital COVID-19 information with the attendees. It was an enriching experience to engage with the community and disseminate knowledge critical to their health and well-being.
A highlight of the conference was our Executive Director, Alejandra Ibañez, presenting an achievement award to Dr. Aida Giachello on behalf of ASI. Dr. Giachello is a significant figure within Illinois Unidos, having been an original steering committee member and now serving as the Board Vice Chair.
Dr. Giachello’s dedication has been pivotal in shaping ASI’s HRSA (Health Resources and Services Administration) vaccination project. She authored the foundational white paper, “HRSA Vaccine Access Project: Summary of Key Activities, Results, and Lessons Learned,” which outlined ASI’s successful vaccination initiatives. This project resulted in the vaccination of 3,346 individuals across five targeted communities and adjacent areas during the most critical phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. Her tireless support and commitment have been a beacon of inspiration, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to ASI’s mission and the Latino community.
At the conference, it was an honor to witness Dr. Giachello’s contributions recognized. Her work has not only impacted the individuals who received vaccinations but also set a precedent for community health initiatives. Dr. Giachello’s efforts epitomize the spirit of service and advocacy that Illinois Unidos stands for.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Giachello and express our gratitude for her enduring commitment to creating healthier communities. Her achievements inspire us all to continue striving for a healthier, more equitable future.
