Illinois Unidos is proud to announce Alejandra L. Ibañez, as our inaugural full-time Executive Director.
Alejandra Ibañez has been a force of nature for change in our community. Her history as a community organizer, nonprofit executive, grantmaker, and public servant brings to Illinois Unidos an experienced leader and advocate. A seasoned community organizer and urban planner, Alejandra made waves as the Executive Director of Pilsen Alliance, a leading institution building power for working-class and immigrant communities, and as Chief of Staff to the State of Illinois’s first Latina State Representative. Most recently, Alejandra worked in Chicago’s philanthropic sector, leading the immigrant and worker’s rights portfolio, as well as the nonprofit capacity building and women of color leadership initiatives for the Woods Fund Chicago.
Illinois Unidos continues to be a united voice advocating for an equitable COVID -19 response and recovery for the state’s Latinx community. This incredible effort has become a national model for how all segments of a community can come together to leverage more resources, utilize culturally relevant strategies, impact policy change and tell our own story. With Alejandra’s hiring, Illinois Unidos now has two full-time staff, two consultants, and a cadre of volunteers that includes health, medical and community leaders who continue to dedicate an extraordinary amount of time and lead our inter-disciplinary committees.
Join us in welcoming Alejandra as Illinois Unido’s Executive Director. We look forward to her leadership as Illinois Unidos continues to lead an equitable response and recovery from Covid for our state’s Latinx community.
